Part Replacement Instructions for The Protector Mineral Feeder
General Information for all part replacements:

Always turn Protector Off before making any adjustments or repairs.
Remove door by driving hinge pin out at the top of the door. Place screwdriver blade against the head of the right side of the hinge pin and tap out. The door can then be lifted out.
The Protector is easier to work on if removed from tree or set on something,(i.e. back of pickup) to stop it from swinging.

To Replace Electronic Board and Bracket (T-Bar):

After door is removed, lay Protector on it's back..
Disconnect all wires. Two to the pump in the tank and two to the solar panel wires coming down from the top of barrel.
Remove Loc nuts on top and in front of barrel. Old T-Bar will pull out now, pull the bolt from the top of barrel first. Switch Battery, if necessary. Read Battery Replacement instructions.
Replace with New T-Bar and replace Loc nuts.
Reconnect wires. Pump wires have pink ends, red wire to the positive terminal on left and black wire to the negative terminal on right.
Replace door and adjust magnet on the door to a ž" gap from it's switch on the T-Bar.
Check to be sure that the Protector is working properly.

To Replace the Battery:

After door is removed, disconnect the wires and cut tape to remove old battery and discard properly. Place new battery in bracket.
Tape the battery in, placing cardboard between the top of the battery and the tape to avoid constricting the vent ports on the battery.
Reconnect wires. The RED WIRE (positive) must be attached to the RED TERMINAL (positive) and the BLACK WIRE (negative) must be attached to the BLACK TERMINAL (negative). This is very important. The electronic board may be ruined and require replacement if the wires are connected to the wrong terminals.
Coat terminals with something to protect from salt. (silicone will work well)
Replace door and check to be sure the Protector is working properly.

To Replace Solar Panel:

Disconnect wires inside barrel and remove old solar panel.
Place new solar panel wires through the hole in top of barrel. Put dab of silicone sealant over wire hole to waterproof and fill in old screw holes.
Place new Solar Panel in position and screw down ends of panel.
Reattach wires inside barrel.

To replace Pump:

After door is removed, lay Protector on it's back. Look for the pump at the bottom of the white plastic tank in the upper inside area of barrel.
Remove wires from old pump.
To remove pump from tank, place your finger behind the top of the motor and pull it toward you until it "unsnaps" from the tank. Pull upwards on the pump until the stem comes out of grommet in tank.
Remove hose from old pump. Check hose for damage. If needed cut small section off until you have a clean end on the hose.
Remove old grommet from the tank. (this is the rubber seal between tank and pump) Replace with new grommet on the stem of the new pump.
Push hose onto the new pump nozzle. Push pump through new grommet and into tank. Push back on pump until you feel it snap into place.
Put wires back on. The red wire goes to positive terminal. It is marked on the top of the pump with a + and is usually on the left. The black wire goes to the negative terminal, marked with a - and usually on the right.
Replace door and check to be sure there are no leaks and that the Protector is working properly.

To Replace Magnetic Switch:

After door is removed, take door out of barrel.
Remove two bolts and nuts that are holding the magnet and bracket to the back of the door.
Replace with new magnet and bracket and replace door.
With door in the closed position, adjust the magnet on the door parallel to but with a ž" gap from it's switch on the T-Bar.
Replace door and check to be sure the Protector is working properly.

To Replace 6 qt. Tank.

Remove door. Remove bolt at the bottom right side of old tank. Remove tank cap. Remove pump and grommet from old tank.
Push tank out of opening in top of barrel.
Place new tank into opening in top of barrel, be sure to put silicone sealant around top of tank to seal.
Replace bolt at the bottom right side of new tank. Replace tank cap.
Check that new grommet is in place and insert pump into bottom of tank.
Replace door and check to be sure the Protector is working properly.
